High sensitivity and the limbic system

The amygdala is located in the limbic system. It is the alarm center of the brain. Highly sensitive people have an elevated level of norepinephrine . As a result, their limbic system is more quickly set to "danger".

The amygdala influences emotions such as anger and fear. When the adrenal gland Adrenaline releases, the "alarm bells" start ringing. The body reacts with fight, freeze, or flight.
