Greatly simplified, there are (according to Hans-Jürgen Eysenck) two personality types. People with a strong attention system (with BIS energy) or a behavioral activation system (with BAS energy). These systems are hormonally controlled.
People with a lot of BAS energy (behavioral activation system) appear curious, approach new things, are brave, and have strong impulses.
Their evolutionary task is to explore and conquer new territories. To try new things and to defend the territory and the herd.
People with a lot of BIS energy (attention system) are:
- Observant
- Reflective
- Rather slow
- Cautious
- Forward-thinking
- Good at perceiving differences
- Sensitive to dangers
- Empathetic
- Strong in sensory perception
What Was Nature Thinking With This?
Their evolutionary task is to recognize dangers in order to protect the "herd". To check situations, animals, people, and things (e.g. food) for dangers and to advise and warn the other members of the tribe. Highly sensitive people have high BIS energy.
The cooperation of people with a mindfulness system and a behavioral activation system ensured the survival of the tribe.
One's own mix
Every person carries both BIS and BAS energy within them.
Depending on the individual proportions, it has an impact on personality.
