High Sensitivity Facts

  • In 1996, the first book on high sensitivity (Elaine N. Aron) was published, coining the term.
  • One in five people highly sensitive .
  • High Sensitivity is hereditary, but can also skip generations.
  • The proportion of highly sensitive persons men and women is equal.
  • High Sensitivity is most noticeable in childhood and from approx. 25 years of age. During adolescence (puberty), the High Sensitivity is less apparent due to different hormone production.
  • 70% of HSPs (highly sensitive persons) are introverted –
    30% are extroverted (see the “Highly Sensitive System“).
  • High Sensitivity is not an illness, but a personality trait that is important for ensuring human survival.
  • Strong sensitization can also arise from a severe life-threatening trauma. This then decreases again after processing the event.
  • Many HSPs also have developmental trauma.
  • The percentage of up to 20% High Sensitivity has also been proven in higher mammals.
